Two Colorado Cities Among the Fastest Growing for Entrepreneurs

By comparing the number of companies founded between July 2018 and 2019 and July 2020 and 2021, LinkedIn has published a report showing that Denver ranked the eighth fastest growing large city in the United States for entrepreneurs while Colorado Springs ranks the second fastest growing small city. Denver experienced a 32% growth rate and Colorado Springs, 67%. The large city ranking is as follows:

  1. Orlando
  2. Miami-Fort Lauderdale
  3. Tampa Bay
  4. Houston
  5. Dallas-Fort Worth
  6. Las Vegas
  7. Philadelphia
  8. Denver
  9. Kansas City
  10. Phoenix

With the exception of Philadelphia and Kansas City, this list correlates strongly with the strength of the real estate markets in the sun belt and mountain regions and further underscores early predictions at the start of the pandemic that cities like Denver would be net benefactors of pandemic and the resulting migration of educated workers to cities where they want to live.

Fun fact: across the country, 40% of founders had a master's degree and 52% had a mid-level job position before leaving to found their company.
